WHAT MARTINO SAID ABOUT MESSI’S FITNESS
Messi came on as a substitute against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday in Miami’s MLS draw, but had last played before that on March 13, because of a thigh injury.
Inter Miami manager Tata Martino says Messi has now shaken off that issue for good, though, which means he could play a bigger role against Monterrey. “Well, he’s good. He felt good after playing 45 minutes in the MLS match against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday,” Martino told reporters. “We still have today’s training, so we shall see. But the injury continues to be left behind, which is the most important part.”
WHAT NEXT FOR MESSI AND MIAMI?
Messi will be looking to guide his side into the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Cup but they will have to overcome a 2-1 first-leg deficit and history to do so. Miami will then return to action in MLS action, where they currently sit third in the Eastern Conference, with a fixture against Sporting KC up next on Sunday.
