THE MUMMY 4: Resurrection (2024)
La Mummia è un film d’azione-avventura americano del 1999 scritto e diretto da Stephen Sommers. È un remake del film omonimo del 1932, con Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah e Arnold Vosloo nel ruolo del protagonista nei panni della mummia rianimata. Il film segue l’avventuriero Rick O’Connell mentre si reca ad Hamunaptra, la Città dei Morti, con una bibliotecaria e suo fratello maggiore, dove risvegliano accidentalmente Imhotep, un sommo sacerdote maledetto con poteri soprannaturali.
Lo sviluppo ha richiesto anni, con l’impegno di molteplici sceneggiature e registi. Nel 1997, Sommers ha presentato con successo la sua versione più avventurosa e romantica del materiale originale. Le riprese si sono svolte in Marocco e nel Regno Unito; L’equipaggio ha sopportato disidratazione, tempeste di sabbia e serpenti sparati sul posto nel deserto del Sahara. Industrial Light & Magic ha fornito molti degli effetti visivi, fondendo filmati live-action e immagini generate al computer per creare il mostro titolare.
Jerry Goldsmith ha fornito la partitura orchestrale.
La Mummia è uscito nelle sale il 7 maggio 1999. Nonostante le critiche contrastanti, è stato un successo commerciale e ha incassato oltre 416,4 milioni di dollari in tutto il mondo contro un budget di produzione di 80 milioni di dollari. Il successo del film ha generato due sequel diretti, La mummia: il ritorno (2001) e La mummia: la tomba dell’imperatore drago (2008). Ha portato anche a spin-off come una serie animata e il prequel Il Re Scorpione (2002), che ha generato i propri sequel. I tentativi di riavviare la proprietà e avviare un nuovo franchise mediatico hanno portato a un film del 2017.
