Someone has made an 11-minute compilation of managers and players picking between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, there’s a clear winner

A total of 141 people answered the age-old debate – Messi or Ronaldo?

A compilation of managers and players answering the age-old ‘Messi vs Ronaldo’ debate has received over 1.7 million views online.

It remains the most debated topic in football. Who will go down as the greatest of all time?

Will it be Cristiano Ronaldo, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward who holds the record for most club and international goals of all time.

Or will it be Lionel Messi, the Barcelona legend that has lifted eight Ballon d’Ors, six European golden boots and three International golden balls in his trophy-laden career to date.

Some will throw Pele, Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff into the equation but more often than not, Messi and Ronaldo dominate the conversation.

So, what do their fellow professionals think? As you can see from the footage below, a total of 141 players are asked for their thoughts, including Virgil van Dijk, Thierry Henry and Toni Kroos.

In total, 40 of those questioned voted for Cristiano Ronaldo as their ‘greatest of all time’, while 101 others picked Messi.

Ronaldo and Messi have shared 26 teammates throughout their illustrious careers. including former Manchester United and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, who gave previously given his take on the GOAT debate last year.

Speaking to John Nellis’ YouTube channel, he said: “Well, it’s true that the fight between the two in the last decade was quite impressive because both of them did incredibly well.

“I think that in terms of talent, Messi is number one, for sure. It’s true that Cristiano has worked very hard to try and compete and fight for that first spot but if you see the careers of both… I would choose Messi, for sure.”

Pique added: “He showed that even though he’s 35 he can compete as the best player in the world. He showed it in the World Cup.”

Sergio Ramos also played alongside Ronaldo and Messi during spells at Real Madrid and Paris Saint-German respectively.

“There was suffering for several years playing against Messi,” he told PSG TV last year. “I am now enjoying him. He is the best player football has ever produced.”
