Skylar Diggins-Smith has been fired from the Wnba for attacking Kaitlyn.

Caitlyn Clark and the Indiana Fever continued their strong post-Olympic break performance with a commanding 92-75 victory over the Seattle Storm. However, the spotlight quickly shifted from their impressive display to a controversial moment involving Storm guard Skylar Diggins-Smith, who intentionally bumped into Clark during the game. The incident left many fans outraged, claiming it was yet another example of WNBA veterans targeting the rookie.

Despite the fan uproar, Los Angeles Sparks star Lexie Brown dismissed these accusations during her appearance on the “Gil’s Arena” podcast. Brown acknowledged that the bump was intentional but clarified that it wasn’t motivated by any personal animosity towards Clark. Instead, she explained that Diggins-Smith is known for her competitive nature and often tries to disrupt opponents’ focus through such mind games.

Brown urged fans to drop the narrative that Diggins-Smith’s actions were rooted in a dislike for Clark. She emphasized that such tactics are common in the league, where experienced players frequently test the mental toughness of young talent. Gilbert Arenas, also appearing on the podcast, agreed with Brown, noting that players often engage in psychological tactics to gain an edge over their opponents. However, he added that WNBA players need to be aware of the heightened scrutiny surrounding Clark, given the increased media attention she attracts.

Arenas pointed out that while similar actions might go unnoticed when directed at other players, anything involving Clark is likely to be caught on camera and heavily discussed. He suggested that while it’s normal for veterans to test rising stars, those targeting Clark should be prepared to face the consequences, given the intense spotlight she brings to the league.

Both Brown and Arenas highlighted that the WNBA is a highly competitive and physical league, where young players, especially those touted as future superstars like Clark, are often tested by more experienced players. However, with Clark’s unprecedented popularity, the scrutiny of such incidents is much greater today than in the past. Despite the physical and mental challenges Clark faces, she continues to thrive, but the veterans targeting her must understand that their actions will be closely watched and criticized.
