As per reports, Webb Simpson, the departing member of the Policy Board urged for Rory McIlroy to replace him.
A shocking return seems to be on the cards for Rory McIlroy. The World No. 2 is reported to be in line for a dramatic comeback as the sixth player-director in the PGA Tour policy board, months after stepping down.
McIlroy shocked the world when he announced his exit from this body in November 2023. The four-time major champion revealed that there are lot of things going on his life and claimed he felt he did not have the “time” and “energy” to commit working as a player-director.
This development saw Jordan Spieth replace McIlroy and take over his spot. According to The Guardian, the North Irish golfer is now set to make a stunning return to this policy board as early as next week.
As per reports, Rory McIlroy will now replace Webb Simpson on this PGA Tour body. The 38-year-old tendered his resignation from this post with a special request that McIlroy should be the one who takes over his seat.
A vote approving his reappointment will now take place. If the votes go in his favor, he will be back as one of the six player-director and re-join Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Adam Scott and Jordan Spieth in the tour’s policy board.

After stepping down from the PGA Tour policy board, there has been a huge change in the stance of Rory McIlroy towards LIV Golf. All of this has lead to rumors of him being the next big name to dump the Tour and play on the 54-hole circuit. However, McIlroy has squashed this talks and committed to play on the PGA Tour for the rest of his career.
A recent report from CityAM claimed that he had been offered a sum of $850 million to play on LIV Golf. At the RBC Heritage, McIlroy would deny this rumor and laughed it off.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to deal with it (rumors of joining LIV Golf). This is the state that our game is in, but yeah, I’m obviously here today and I’m playing the PGA Tour event next week and I will play the PGA Tour for the rest of my career.” – Rory McIlroy said via Golf Channel.
Speaking on McIlroy recent performances, the former World No.1 finished T33 at the RBC Heritage after recording a T22 place finish at the Masters. In eight events so far, he has only finished in the top-10 once, leading to many getting concerned about his performances. He will now turn his attention to the Zurich Classic of New Orleans where he will team up with his Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry in the two-player team event.
