The 2024 MLS campaign kicked off in sublime fashion with all the American sides vying to kickstart their respective campaigns on a high. The extravagant festival of American soccer has produced some jaw-dropping goals and mouth-watering moments as viewers once again brace themselves for a feisty MLS Golden Boot race with Inter Miami reuniting the Barcelona duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
The Argentine and Uruguayan duo of Messi and Suarez will be aiming to replicate their days in La Liga and link up once again like their old days. Messi completely transformed Inter Miami since his arrival last term and Suarez’s arrival could create havoc in the league and the two could cause multiple problems for the opposing defence.
While the Inter Miami superstars would garner massive attention this season, 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga would also be hunting for the glorious prize once again and become only the fifth player in history to capture the award twice.
1Cristian Arango | Real Salt Lake | 8 goals
Real Salt Lake acquired Cristian Arango to change their fortunes as the former Pachuca forward proved his worth having played half of the 2023 MLS campaign. But with the Colombian forward having the opportunity to lead the attack throughout the campaign, Arango would be aiming to continue his purple patch in front of goal.
2Lionel Messi | Inter Miami | 7 goals
Since he arrived in the United States of America, Lionel Messi has added plenty of quality to David Beckham’s Inter Miami. And with La Pulga playing a complete campaign, it’s no surprise to see the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner amongst the top scorer charts in the MLS.
3Luis Suarez | Inter Miami | 6 goals
Luis Suarez, Inter Miami’s landmark signing in 2024, reunited with his former goal-scoring partner as he’ll be vying to replicate his Barcelona days at the Herons.
4Lewis Morgan | New York Red Bulls | 6 goals
Scottish midfielder Lewis Morgan made the switch from Inter Miami to New York Red Bulls as he had a scintillating campaign for The Red Bulls Metro after switching ships.
Morgan thundered 15 goals and three assists in his first season at the NY Red Bulls but followed it with a shambolic campaign as he failed to produce any goal contributions throughout the 2022/23 MLS campaign. The attacking midfielder is now on course to turn around his statistics as he has started the season on a high.
5Christian Benteke | DC United | 6 goals
An opening day hat-trick in the 2024 MLS has skyrocketed Christian Benteke‘s stocks as the former Crystal Palace forward continues to create havoc in America’s premier division. The target man is an influential cog in DC United’s forward battery and he’ll be a major source of inspiration for DC United’s success this term.
