Mike Tindall has taken aim at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s staunch ally Omid Scobie and accused the polarising royal author of “bagging people”.

The retired rugby great and husband of Princess Anne’s only daughter, Zara, reportedly fell out with Harry and Meghan after the Sussexes left the royal family and publicly slammed the monarchy.

In 2022, it was alleged by the Daily Express newspaper that Mike was overheard venting to a fellow guest at the Platinum Jubilee that Harry was a “ba*****” for how he treated King Charles and Prince William.

Despite having no titles and serving no official role in the monarchy, both Zara and Mike are fiercely loyal to her mother Anne and uncle King Charles, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales.

In a brand new interview with the Telegraph, Tindall and his rugby podcast co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne were quizzed about Mr Scobie, after Mr Haskell publicly labelled the author “a very odd bloke”.

“Royal fans can be mental,” Mr Haskell said.

“We all know that American royal fans are f**king nuts, especially Scobieites.”

Tensions between Mr Scobie and Tindall began in 2022 when he publicly criticised Mike for “cashing in” on his royal connections by appearing on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!.

Despite the ensuing social media backlash, Tindall said he did not have access to his social media accounts and “sifts” through negative coverage.

“I don’t even have access to my Twitter,” Tindall told the Telegraph.

“I just (get) tagged in by anyone who’s talking about anything. It’s so random, what I have to sift through.

“If there’s any story about me or my kids, it will get entangled into a web of something else, and I’m tagged into reading all this crap.

“That’s the world we live in. Some have got nothing better to do than bag people.”

Mr Scobie catapulted to recognition as the co-author of the 2020 book Finding Freedom, an overly flattering biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex charting their romance and decision to move to the United States.

According to fellow royal author Tom Bower, Meghan and Harry cooperated with Mr Scobie and his co-author on Finding Freedom, sharing information via their then-communications secretary Jason Knauf and later agreeing to lie about any involvement.

The couple’s involvement in the book may never have been proven except for Meghan’s legal battle waged against the publishers of The Mail on Sunday and MailOnline.

In October 2019, the Sussexes began legal proceedings against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) for privacy violations and copyright infringement after The Mail published a private letter Meghan wrote to her estranged father Thomas Markle.

Meghan claimed publishing the letter to her father invaded her privacy, but the same letter was included in Finding Freedom, a book she had cooperated with.

In November 2021, Mr Knauf finally admitted to the court that Meghan gave him “briefing” points via email to share with Mr Scobie and authorised her friends to speak directly to the author.

Meghan subsequently apologised to the court for “not remembering” the emails earlier and stated she “had absolutely no wish or intention to mislead the defendant or the court”.
