Julian Gressel says “Leo is Leo” after witnessing another Messi masterclass in Inter Miami’s crushing 4-1 MLS victory over the New England Revolution.
Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi was at his magical best once again in that contest as he posted three more goal contributions. The iconic Argentine bagged himself a brace, while also adding another assist to his impressive tally.
Gressel is getting used to experiencing such displays from Messi, telling reporters of his legendary team-mate and the rich vein of form that he has hit: “Leo is Leo. He does the things he does, and has been doing it his whole career. This wasn’t just one spectacular performance. He’s certainly on a roll. He’s been having those every weekend. It’s good for us because it helps us win games. What gets me is how many people he touches with his play, the emotions he creates in people.”
There were over 65,000 spectators at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts to witness the latest Messi show, with Inter Miami boss Tata Martino saying of playing on the road in front of what can often feel like a home crowd: “The people in all the stadiums come to see to Leo, that is for sure, but then they want their team to win. That atmosphere motivates us and we have been managing that well. But that also gives added incentive to the rivals, and we have to prepare for that.”
Messi has recorded a goal contribution in 10 straight club matches in all competitions for the seventh time in his career and the first since September-December 2018.
WHAT NEXT FOR INTER MIAMI?
The Herons fell behind inside 60 seconds against the Revolution, but hit back in stunning style and registered three goals in the final 23 minutes. Another eye-catching win has kept them at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference – with Martino’s side next in action against the New York Red Bulls on May 4.
