Is ANOTHER Wembanyama heading to the NBA? 7-foot-4 Victor’s younger brother Oscar, 16, goes viral as fans hail his ‘insane potential

Another member of the Wembanyama family could be destined for the NBA soon as fans hailed the ‘insane potential’ that Victor’s younger brother, Oscar, has on social media.

At 6-ft-8, Oscar is currently several inches shorter than the star Spurs rookie but the 16-year-old, basketball prodigy is already taller than the average height of an NBA player, which has stayed at 6-ft-6 since the 1980s.

The younger Wembanyama first started hopping just two years ago, as he previously played handball – a popular sport in France.

‘In my city, all my friends did it. That’s what made me appreciate the sport. I think I was considered a prospect, you could say’ Oscar told Euroleague last year. ‘I played very little basketball, just with my mother because she organized training courses for children. I got into it in a club last year. I had been considering doing it for a year.’

Now playing for the LDLC ASVEL U-21 team in his homeland, Oscar claims to be inspired by Jason Williams, the silky ballhandler who played a pivotal role in the 2006 NBA Finals with the Miami Heat.

Oscar Wembanyama is already playing for an U-21 team back in France despite only being 16

His older brother, Victor, is widely tipped to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award this season

Oscar was by his older brother's side when Victor, 20, was drafted as the first overall draft pick

The teen claims he first picked up basketball during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘There was a period when I was not doing anything because of COVID, and that emptiness pushed me to do something new, so I turned to basketball,’ Oscar said.

Despite his unimpressive stats, so far in his young career (three points in only two games played for ASVEL’s U-21 team, according to Pro Ballers), Oscar is tipped to play in the LNB Pro A League – the top-tier men’s professional basketball league in France – before he turns 18.

Victor was the first overall pick of last year’s NBA Draft, and at this point is the clear favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award ahead of OKC’s Chet Holmgren and Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr.

He is averaging 20.8 points per game in his debut season in San Antonio, along with 10.8 rebounds and 3.4 blocks.
