Inter Miami’s horrible luck with injuries continued on Saturday night as Diego Gomez was stretchered off in tears early on in a win over Nashville SC.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Paraguayan midfielder was forced out of the game in the 41st minute after being stepped on by Nashville’s Elliot Panicco. A tearful Gomez was stretchered off after attempting to walk off on his own, adding another major injury for Miami early in the MLS season.
While Gomez was sidelined, Lionel Messi found Sergio Busquets with a corner kick, which the Spanish star headed home to make it 2-1. Miami would go on to win 3-1, with Messi adding a late penalty to seal the three points.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Gomez has been a massive player for Miami this season, with the Paraguayan establishing himself as an important piece of the Herons’ midfield. Gomez’s energy has been vital, particularly due to the age of the ex-Barcelona stars surrounding him in the team.
The Herons, though, look set to deal with another injury. Eight players were ruled out of Saturday’s clash with Nashville, including starters Jordi Alba, Sergii Kryvtsov and Robert Taylor. Midfielder Federico Redondo is also still out of action while youngster Benjamin Cremaschi is only just returning from his own injury absence.
