“I Was Bartending”: Luka Doncic Recalls Part Time Gig Describing Circus Shot in 47-Point Houston Outing

In a clash between the Dallas Mavericks (45-29) and the Houston Rockets (38-36), Luka Doncic erupted for a monster night, racking up an insane 47 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists in just 35 minutes. He led his team to a 125-107 dub. This win snapped the Rockets’ incredible 11-game winning streak, the league’s longest at the time. Luka Doncic, with his ever-funny wit, had the most hilarious answer in the post-presser.

Shane Young on X: "The first question to Luka Dončić was about his underhand scoop shot "I wasn't surprised. When I was young, I was bartending." Dude is hilarious https://t.co/DPMM5yT3jg" / X

When asked if he was surprised with the underhand scoop shot that he played, he wittily answered, “I wasn’t surprised. When I was young, I was bartending,” and cracked up himself!

The Mavs are on fire themselves, having won 7 straight with an 11-1 record over their last 12 games. They’re also undefeated on their current 5-game road trip, sitting at a perfect 4-0.

Luka Doncic went off for Dallas, draining 18 of his 30 shots from the field, including  9 three-pointers out of 16 attempts. He wasn’t a one-man show though, racking up a double-double with 12 rebounds and dishing out 7 assists to his teammates, along with 2 steals. Kyrie Irving wasn’t far behind, putting up 24 points and 7 assists himself. Dante Exum came off the bench hot, scoring 13 points, while P.J. The Rockets offense was a team effort, with Jabari Smith leading the charge with 28 points and 7 boards. Aaron Holiday chipped in with 16 points, and Cam Whitmore added 13. Jalen Green had an off night, only scoring 12 points. Jock Landale and Fred VanVleet provided some scoring support off the bench with 11 and 10 points respectively. VanVleet also dished out 7 assists.

Doncic remained a scoring machine in the 2nd quarter, hitting step-back 3’s and and-one jumpers, pushing the lead to 21 points by halftime. At the break, Doncic had a mind-blowing 46 points or assists, outscoring the entire Rockets team (45 points)! He added more step-back jumpers in the 3rd quarter and even surprised everyone with an insane underhanded shot, that he cracked up about in the post-presser. The Rockets just couldn’t keep up, and Dallas cruised to victory with the lead never dipping below 15 points in the entire 4th quarter.

Before he even hit 25 (February 28th) Doncic had already racked up some serious stats. He’s the third-highest scorer under 25, right behind legends like LeBron James and Kevin Durant. He also joins Michael Jordan in a super exclusive club, the only two players with multiple 60-point games before turning 25.

My 2023 NBA All-Star Game media ballot: Mavericks' Luka Doncic an obvious choice this year

Luka has the second-most frequent triple-doubles under 25, just a hair behind the legendary Oscar Robertson. He leads the league in triple-doubles with 20+ points (a whopping 61), 30+ points (38), and 8 with 40+ points. And to top it all off, he’s the only player under 25 to ever record a 50-point triple-double.

This season has been no different. Doncic’s averaging a staggering 34.0 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.1 rebounds over 65 games. Luka Doncic isn’t just a rising star, he’s ballin’ with the legends and carving his own place in NBA history.
