Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade and USA’s Simone Biles are two of the top gymnasts in the world right now.
They won gold and silver, respectively, in the women’s floor exercise on Monday at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and following Andrade’s win, some began debating which gymnast was truly No. 1 in the world.
The Brazilian Olympic Committee took things a step further, tweeting a photo of Andrade with the caption “GOAT. Greatest of All Time. Rebeca Andrade,” which stirred up quite a few disagreements among people who couldn’t discern whether the tweet was insinuating Andrade was the greatest Brazilian Olympian of all-time or if the BOC was actually taking a shot at Biles.
While there’s no denying Andrade is currently at the top of her game, her resume doesn’t quite stack up to Biles’.
The 25-year-old Brazilian won four medals in Paris — one gold (floor) and three silver (all-around, vault and team) — bringing her career total up to six (she won two medals at the Tokyo Games.)
However, Biles is the most-decorated gymnast of all-time with 11 Olympic medals — seven gold, two silver and two bronze — and 30 World Championship medals. She’s just two gold medals shy of tying the gymnastics record by an Olympian.
