Irene Schouten stopte aan het begin van dit jaar met schaatsen. Sindsdien heeft de winnares van drie gouden olympische medailles een hoop andere projecten. Deze zaterdag presenteerde de zwangere oud-schaatsster weer een nieuwe bezigheid.
Sinds haar afscheid van het schaatsen in februari van het jaar, stapelt het nieuws over Schouten zich op. Ze maakte bijvoorbeeld bekend in verwachting te zijn van haar eerste kind en belandde vanwege fysieke problemen tijdens de zwangerschap zelfs even in het ziekenhuis. Maar er was nog meer nieuws.
Zo is er een biografie over het leven van de oud-schaatsster geschreven, debuteerde ze als verslaggever op de Olympische Spelen en probeert ze ondanks de zwangerschap nog genoeg te sporten. En dan is er nog een groot project dat ze samen met haar man Dirkjan Mak heeft.
Bouwen aan droomhuis
De twee, die in 2022 trouwden, zijn al sinds 2021 hard bezig om hun droomhuis te realiseren in Hoogkarspel. In het Noord-Hollandse plaatsje moest kort na de aankoop de woning helemaal afgebroken worden omdat er geen heipalen onder bleken te zitten. Omdat Mak vrij handig is, besloten ze zelf het nieuwe huis te bouwen.
Nieuw project
Dat is uiteraard een bulk werk, waar Schouten geregeld updates van deelt. Dit weekend werd er geklust aan de oprit. “De mannen zijn hard aan het werk”, schrijft Schouten trots op Instagram. Daar zijn Schouten en co voorlopig nog even zoet mee.
Via dat medium liet ze eerder al eens weten dat ze pas in het huis gaan wonen als alles klaar is. Er is dus nog genoeg te doen, maar het droomhuis van de oud-schaatsster en haar man krijgt steeds meer vorm.
Aan het eind van de zomer sprak Sportnieuws.nl uitgebreid met Schouten. Toen kwam uiteraard haar privéleven ook uitgebreid aan bod. Check het hele interview hier.
