The Red Bull F1 team has found itself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons during the ongoing 2024 F1 season. From the Christian Horner saga to the various other shenanigans going on at the team, the whole group has been in a bit of a mess.

Amidst the various internal tussles, the former F1 driver, Jacques Villeneuve, has made it known that it will be in the best interest of the Austrian team to part ways with Max Verstappen instead of its team principal, Christian Horner.

In recent times, Max Verstappen has been linked with a potential move to Mercedes.

There are a lot of personal vendettas in there right now, both inside and outside of Red Bull. The whole thing is a mess. Would the team be as good without Horner? That is a difficult one. Would the team win without Verstappen? Probably.

Jacques Villeneuve said in an interview with racingnews365

Villeneuve firmly believes that in the long-term interest of Red Bull, they should opt for Horner over Verstappen, in case things come to a crossroads. The Brit has been leading the charge of the Austrian team since the very beginning.

Jacques Villeneuve feels Fernando Alonso will also ‘win’ in a Red Bull

While Villeneuve has advised Red Bull to keep hold of Horner for as long as possible, he has also made it known that, in case Verstappen leaves, the team can look to bring in Fernando Alonso. The 42-year-old is still as fast as ever.

Moreover, his current deal with the Aston Martin F1 team is slated to come to a close at the end of this year.

Max is winning because he has an amazing car and Red Bull are winning because they have an amazing driver. But he is not the only amazing driver that exists. Put Alonso in that car and he would be winning as well.

Jacques Villeneuve said in the same interview

Fernando Alonso has been making his trade at the pinnacle of motor racing since 2001. He is showing no signs of slowing down and in case, things come to a boiling point at Red Bull this year, Horner and Co. really could look to give Alonso a seat for the 2025 F1 season. However, as things stand, the chances of this happening are quite slim.
