Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson’s future with LIV Golf events remains questionable as talks of them taking off-field roles remain imminent.

Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson LIV Golf on-field days may turn into off-field duties as both pro stars face problems finding form in the last few events. As per reports in the Mirror, both of them have struggled to leave a robust impression in their events. There’s a possibility of them taking off-stage roles in LIV as their contract nears expiration.

According to Alan Shipnuck, players will re-enter into negotiations at the end of 2025, with Mickelson and Watson possibly moving away from on-field events. Mickelson has always been a strong spokesperson for the breakaway league since its inception in June 2022.

In the LIV circuit’s 20 events schedule, Phil Mickelson has only managed to etch his name in two with top-10 finishes. Bubba Watson too, has faced similar struggles as both struggled to find their ultimate forms on the field. Watson has been open about his shortcomings, as the former green-jacket discussed his future in LIV Golf since making his way into the top 10 just once in May, Tulsa.

Mickelson on the other hand once said he wanted to try and be on the field until he gets one victory at Grand Slam. He’ll retire once he achieves his last feat.

Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy have been at odds since LIV Golf’s inception back in 2022. With the former vehemently supporting the Saudi league and McIlroy being a staunch PGA Tour supporter bombed their relationship further. But in recent weeks, things seem to have changed. McIlroy made a U-turn on LIV Golf views and accepted players on the Saudi circuit.

He stated “life is about choices” and those who exited from the PGA Tour are welcome to join back if they wish so and have the eligibility to make their stand. “I don’t think there should be any punishment” for anyone coming back. His comments were welcomed by the LIV Golf players, especially Mickelson, but McIlroy was also criticized by others for his softened stance.

Mickelson supported McIlroy’s changed attitude as he admitted that it “probably wasn’t easy to say” for the World No.2 after years of hostility between LIV-PGA. Mickelson was rather interested in grabbing this opportunity to “let go of our hostilities” and work together to make the sport better.

The merger talk that was scheduled to take place by December 31st, got delayed by both parties. For now, the LIV-PGA saga will continue with no official dates being set. In the latest reports, Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour Commissioner apparently aims to “shut down” LIV Golf amidst speculations of the merger talk.
