Officials said it was too early to say if the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was a “lone wolf’ situation.

“Too early to say that. We have one shooter tentatively identified. We’re not stopping there. We’re following up on a lot of information, it will be some time until we can conclusively say (it was a single gunman)” Pennsylvania State Police LT. Col. George Bevins said.

The gunman was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, sources told The Post

The gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump Saturday was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, sources told The Post.

Crooks, of Bethel Park, Pa., squeezed off shots — one of which grazed Trump in the ear — at an outdoor rally in Butler, just outside Pittsburgh.

Sources said Crooks was planted on a roof of a manufacturing plant more than 130 yards away from the stage at Butler Farm Show grounds.

He was killed by Secret Service snipers. An AR-style rifle was later recovered.

Bethel Park is a village 40 miles south of where the Butler rally was held.

Why Crooks fired on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee is unclear.

Donald Trump’s feisty response to the assassination attempt on him Saturday will electrify delegates at the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee and win admiration and respect — and perhaps more support — from other Americans, New York State GOP chairman Ed Cox said.

“Americans saw what Donald Trump was made of. It’s going to energize us,” Cox, the son-in-law of the late President Richard Nixon, said Saturday night following the shooting of Trump by a sniper at a campaign rally earlier in Pennsylvania.

He said it reminded him of when former President Theodore Roosevelt was shot while giving a speech in 1912.

“He showed the toughness people like. You can only admire that. You can see him saying after getting shot, `Fight, fight. Keep fighting,'” Cox said.

He said “the whole nation” will be watching former President Trump’s nominating speech expected Thursday.

New footage from spectators outside former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Penn. shows witnesses noticing the shooting atop a nearby building.

In the horrifying clip, a man could be heard yelling “He’s got a gun!” as others pointed out the shooter on the roof as they fled from the scene.

“I sat with President Biden this afternoon in Delaware; we had a good meeting,” Schumer told The Post in an exclusive statement.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos praised former President Donald Trump after the assassination attempt earlier on Saturday.

“Our former President showed tremendous grace and courage under literal fire tonight. So thankful for his safety and so sad for the victims and their families,” Bezos tweeted.

The billionaire has not tweeted since May of last year. Trump is expected to be doing fine as of Saturday night after he was shot in the ear.

Another witness to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump said he twice tried to warn a police officer about the gunman before the shots rang out.

The rally-goer, who was not identified, told CBS News that he was waiting for Trump when he noticed a suspicious figure above.

“I seen a guy on top of one of the buildings go in between one building to the next and I went and told the officer that he was up there and when I went back to my spot I heard that people could still see the person…. And I went back to tell the officer that if he came over there he could see them and when I turned my back was when the shots started.”

In an official White House statement, a spokesperson said that Joe Biden has reached out to Donald Trump since the shooting occurred and is cutting his beach weekend short to return to Washington D.C.

“This evening, President Biden spoke to former President Trump. The President also spoke to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy.

“Tonight, the President is returning to Washington DC. Tomorrow morning at the White House, he will receive an updated briefing from homeland security and law enforcement officials,” the White House said.

Newt Gingrich, the former US speaker of the House, has joined Sean Hannity on Fox News to share his thoughts on the attempt on former President Trump’s life, saying it was like “watching a personal friend get shot.”

“His courage at walking off with the bleeding and putting up his fist and saying, ‘Fight,’ to remind the crowd that he was going on and as our champion he wanted us to go on with him.”

A helicopter was seen leaving the hospital in Butler, Pa., where Trump was taken after the shooting. It is unknown if anyone was brought to the hospital or flown away from the facility in the helicopter.

Video circulating on X showed two Secret Service snipers stationed on a roof near Trump responding to the shots from the gunman — quickly taking aim and opening fire.
