Jalen Hurts is one of the finest quarterbacks of his generation. However, after last season’s historic meltdown, where Hurts & Co. lost six of their final seven games and crashed out of the playoffs, there needs to be a locker room shakeup.

Led by Hurts in the 2022-23 campaign, the Philadelphia Eagles made it to the Super Bowl. However, last season’s trouble has led former QB turned analyst Dan Orlovsky to question the Eagles.

In an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic, Orlovsky took shots at Philadelphia’s offensive planning. He suggested that the coaches want to use Hurts like the San Francisco 49ers shot caller Brock Purdy.

“You have to use [Jalen Hurts] as an athlete”, said Orlovsky. “You have to use him as a runner. You can’t try to make him Brock Purdy, or Tua, in regards to a pinpoint, anticipatory thrower. That’s not who he is – he can have that as a part of his game, but it is not the identity of his game.”

Orlovsky pointed out that both quarterbacks have different weapons in their arsenals. While Purdy is more of a deep thrower, the analyst encouraged Jalen Hurts to utilize his legs more. The 26-year-old Hurts can be a lethal dual-threat quarterback for the Eagles.

Jalen Hurts doesn’t trust the offensive vision of Nick Sirianni

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reported that Hurts and coach Nick Sirianni have a fractured relationship. While Sirianni has spoken about this matter, the latest reports suggest their issues arise from offensive planning.

However, Jalen Hurts and his coach are in the process of mending their relationship. Both want to succeed and align their vision with the team’s offense. This alignment, or lack thereof, will be visible on Thursday as the Eagles face the New England Patriots in their second preseason game.
