KASSON, Minn. (KTTC) – The college basketball season might be over, but its biggest star, Caitlin Clark is still impacting the game, and this includes a team in southeast Minnesota.
Kasson-Mantorville’s girls basketball team says its excited to see Clark elevate the sport in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever and continue to bring in larger crowds in at all levels of the sport.
“I think that it definitely will, Caitlin Clark will bring more attention to brining crowds into basketball especially for high school,” Kasson-Mantorville’s girls basketball player Ava Pitzenberger said.
Although Clark’s college career ended with a loss in the national championship, Kasson-Mantorville’s girls’ basketball team says the popularity Clark has brought to the sport could inspire the next generation of hoopers.
“I got two daughters myself it sure was fun to watch the national championship game, and games following up to that with my own kids and talked to the girls about the game of basketball and hearing them talk in public about it,” Kasson-Mantorville’s girls basketball coach Ryan Haraldson said.
This includes potentially bringing in more participants for the teams upcoming summer youth basketball program.
“I know that when I was babysitting a couple of times the kids would want to put on game for Caitlin Clark and stuff,” Pitzenberger said. “So, I definitely think that because of her audience that she brings and because of her publicity, she’s definitely going to bring a lot of players.”
The Indiana Fever will play the Minnesota Lynx on July 14. As of Friday April 19, according to Tickets Center, $379 is the lowest priced ticket remaining for purchase.
