Bryson DeChambeau and former U.S. President Donald Trump held a YouTube collaboration recently to raise money for veterans. The event raised $220,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
The collaboration featured DeChambeau and Trump playing a round of golf in the four-ball format. The video was posted to the two-time major champion’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, July 23, and received 225,000 views in just two hours.
The goal of the round was to “break 50,” which gave the video its name. For every stroke under par, a $10,000 donation was made to American Veterans.
Bryson DeChambeau and Donald Trump carded 5 eagles, 12 birdies and one par for a score of 22 under. As agreed for the round, the donation for the Wounded Warrior Project reached $220,000.
YouTube users are also able to donate to the charity while watching the video. So far, more than $4,500 has been raised this way.
Bryson DeChambeau used his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday to announce that the video would be posted. He also assured that this was a charitable and non-political effort. This is what DeChambeau posted:
“To be clear, this is about golf and giving back to our nation’s veterans, not politics. A few weeks ago I reached out to both parties’ presidential campaigns and @realDonaldTrump was down for the challenge. It is an incredible honor to be able to enjoy a round of golf with any sitting or former president, and all have an open invitation to join me for a round of Break 50 anytime.”
During the last presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, there was an exchange between the two about golf. At the time, Bryson DeChambeau publicly invited them to play a round of golf for his YouTube channel, but the idea never came to fruition.
Bryson DeChambeau aims to reach 1 million YouTube subscribers by July 31
Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel is one of the most popular in the sport. He currently (July 23, 2024) has 909,000 subscribers, 170,000 more than Grant Horvat and nearly 500,000 more than Paige Spiranac, two of the most popular golf influencers.
However, DeChambeau maintains his intentions to continue growing in social media and is pursuing the goal of reaching 1 million subscribers before the end of July 2024.
Even during the video collaboration with Donald Trump, DeChambeau assured that if he reaches his goal, he will randomly select five of his subscribers to give them $1,000 each.
DeChambeau began his YouTube channel in 2021, but started working on it more frequently in 2022. Currently, the channel has 111 videos in which the player offers advice on various aspects of the game and also attempts golf challenges.
