Arsenal may be set to launch a bid for Sporting CP superstar Viktor Gyokeres after sending scouts to keep an eye on him, a report says.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Gunners have sent scouts to get a good look at the Sweden international amid his incredible season in Portugal, according to Fabrizio Romano. The north London side are said to be the team showing most interest in him, but are far from the only ones in the picture.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the 25-year-old but any team preparing to make a bid will have to start off high. Sporting coach Ruben Amorim said in January that the Primeira Liga side would not sell him unless his €100 million (£86m/$108m) release clause were triggered.
DID YOU KNOW?
Gyokeres represented Brighton and Coventry before joining Sporting last summer. He has been in insatiable form ever since, scoring a whopping 31 goals in 31 games in all competitions for the Portuguese giants.
WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?
Mikel Arteta’s team will likely keep track of the striker in the coming months and decide whether or not they want to meet Sporting’s demands to sign him. However, the Premeir League title hopefuls may face competition from Chelsea and other teams.
