Anthony Kim admitted that he used for be scared while waking up in the morning during his absence from the golf scene.
In 2024, the world of golf saw the return of Anthony Kim. The three-time PGA Tour winner returned to the sport after a 12-year hiatus and joined LIV Golf. Since then he has slowly started opening up about the time he went missing from the scene.
In a recent interview with David Feherty on LIV Golf Plus, the 38-year-old golfer opened up about how addiction and being around some “bad people” took a massive toll on him. This time, the golfer has spoken about his mental health issues.
Speaking in an interview with Australian newspaper The Age ahead of LIV Golf Adelaide, Kim expressed that he would get “scared” in the morning when he woke up due to the things he did before.
“When I was at a low point in my life, I was scared I would wake up in the morning because of all the things I would have to deal with. A year-and-a-half ago, I didn’t know how much longer I had to live.” – Anthony Kim said
Things though seem to have been changed for him. The golfer admitted now his “biggest fear” is not waking up in the morning and be able to support his family.
“Now the biggest fear I have is not waking up in the morning, not being able to love and support my family.” – Anthony Kim continued
Anthony Kim expresses desire to win again
The comeback of Anthony Kim has so far not gone the way many had hoped for. After staying away from the game for almost a decade, the former Ryder Cup star has shown signs of rust. He though is confident about gameplay and has expressed his desire to win again.
During the interview with The Age, Kim admitted that he thinks about winning and would not be at LIV Golf if he was not confident about emerging as the victor again. This is something he even told LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman when they had a conversation about his return to the sport.
“I think about it [winning again] every day; I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t. That’s not the person I am. When I had the conversation with Greg about certain expectations. I told him, ‘I’m not here to be another one of the guys. If you want me to be, I shouldn’t be on this tour’.” – Anthony Kim said.
Since his return on the greens, Kim has shot some high scores. He though did card a score of 5-under 65 at LIV Golf Hong Kong, signaling his return to form. In the first round of LIV Golf Adelaide, the wildcard golfer posted a score of 1-under 71 and was tied for 35th along with Matthew Wolff, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer and Sam Horsfield.
