Inter Miami have acquired a new slot for another foreign player after trading the spot with Montreal CF.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Inter Miami have officially acquired the spot from the Canadian side for a sum of $150,000 (£118,000) from the Herons’ General Allocation Money (GAM) after having already exhausted all their pre-existing spots for the 2024 season.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Currently, Inter Miami’s 20 foreign player spots have been occupied and they may now look to complete another foreign player signing after the opening up of the new spot.
DID YOU KNOW?
Major League Soccer (MLS) has a total of 233 non-American player spots divided up into the 29 clubs playing in the league. These spots can be traded from club to club depending on the circumstances surrounding the deal. They can be traded for General Allocation Money, other spots on the teams, and also for a chunk of the salary budget.
WHAT NEXT FOR INTER MIAMI?
The club may look to sign another foreign player after their poor showing without the injury-plagued Lionel Messi’s presence on the field. The transfer window for the league ends on April 23, however, they will also have a secondary transfer window in July that will run till the end of August.
