WHAT HAPPENED?

Arsenal take on Bayern on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena aiming to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The tie is level at 2-2 after the first leg but Bayern do have home advantage for the return. The Gunners will also come up against former Tottenham striker Harry Kane once again. Kane scored in the first leg to take his tally to 15 goals in 20 appearances against Arsenal.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Arsenal have struggled against Bayern in the past and have won only won one of their six away games against the Bundesliga side in the Champions League. However, Wenger remains confident of victory, pointing out that Bayern have suffered some poor results at home this season in the German top flight.

WHAT WENGER SAID

He told beIN Sports: “Arsenal against Bayern Munich is a 50-50 game. Bayern have recently been vulnerable at home in the Bundesliga, they lost to Dortmund in a very important game so they will not be 100 per cent confident. I still think Arsenal might just glide through against Bayern.”

DID YOU KNOW?

Arsenal have tasted defeat on their last three visits to Bayern Munich. The last two games have resulted in 5-1 wins for the Bavarian giants.

WHAT NEXT

Both teams head into the match after suffering disappointment at the weekend. Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes took a blow in a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa, while Bayern saw Bayer Leverkusen crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time ever. The winners of the Champions League tie will progress to face either Real Madrid or Manchester City in the semi-finals.
