Max Verstappen has performed in a league of his own in recent years. The Dutchman managed to continue his stellar run from 2023 this season. However, the 2024 season could be different as Red Bull face competition from Ferrari. Now, Lando Norris has affirmed that he could challenge Verstappen with the right car.

Lando Norris was close to Max Verstappen on multiple occasions towards the latter half of the 2023 season. Hence, the 24-year-old didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that he wasn’t afraid of the world champion. Norris highlighted that Verstappen was considered ‘one of the best’ drivers in the history of Formula 1.

I am not afraid of Max in any way and I am excited to run against him, since people consider him one of the best ever.

Additionally, Norris declared that he couldn’t wait to fight with Max Verstappen under different circumstances. The Briton was pointing towards the highly dominant RB20 as compared to McLaren’s MCL38. The 24-year-old asserted that he could face the Dutchman and provide him with a great challenge. Norris however accepted that clashing with Verstappen was difficult for someone in the same team.

I absolutely think I can face Max and give him a good challenge. But I am aware that clashing with Max would be extremely difficult for anyone within his own team. I can't wait to fight with him in a different situation than he has a half second faster car and he passes me.

Lando Norris claims he can win the F1 title with McLaren

Lando Norris sealed a multi-year deal with McLaren before the commencement of the 2024 season. The 24-year-old declined an offer from Red Bull to partner Verstappen in favor of the British team. Norris opened up regarding his thoughts his extension with the Woking-based squad.

Norris claimed that McLaren was capable of winning the world championship against the Red Bull in the future. The 24-year-old revealed that this was also the reason behind extending his current contract with the British team. However, the British squad will need to make big gains to fight for race wins at the moment.

I think I can win the world championship at McLaren, that's why I signed a new contract.

Time will tell about how McLaren fares against Red Bull this season. The British team currently has occupied the third spot in the constructors’ championship by a lead of 35 points to Mercedes. Lando Norris would be hoping to potentially go wheel-to-wheel against Verstappen for victories in the latter half of the season.
