Phil Mickelson isn’t mincing his words about hoops LIV golfers could have to jump through in order to return to the PGA Tour.
Last week, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan announced to the membership that a task force was being set up in order to decide how to discipline LIV golfers who want to return, according to Golf Digest.
That news was met with plenty of ire from Mickelson who unloaded on Twitter about it over the weekend.
“Not a single player on LIV wants to play PGA Tour,” Mickelson wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “It would require a public apology and restitution to LIV players for paying millions to Clout media to disparage all of us. A better topic is future sanctions for the many players who now come to LIV.”
News of the planned merger between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour flipped the sports world on its head and there has been plenty of confusion and speculation about how it would all work since the announcement.
But Mickelson’s shots at the PGA didn’t end with that missive.
On Monday, he fired off another in response to a tweet about comments made by PGA Tour exec Ron Price over the tour’s financials.
“Interesting math. For years their words and the truth have had a huge gap. But to say this under oath to Congress is next level,” he wrote.
It will be interesting to see how vocal Mickelson continues to be as the two rival golf leagues continue to work to make the merger a reality.
The framework deal that was revealed during a hearing on Capitol Hill only gives broad details on how the two leagues will coexist.
And the future of LIV Golf itself has remained the topic of speculation.
