Red Bull’s second driver, Sergio Perez’s current contract with the team is coming to a close at the end of this year. While there is no guarantee whether he will get a contract extension, former F1 driver, Christijan Albers has made it known that Red Bull can’t think of bringing in Fernando Alonso as Max Verstappen‘s teammate.

The former two-time world champion despite being in his 40s is still fast as ever and is showing no signs of slowing down. Christijan Albers believes it will be extremely difficult for Red Bull to control Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen, in case they become Red Bull teammates next year.

Albers feels having Alonso and Verstappen as teammates would lead to chaos.

You absolutely cannot put the two side-by-side. That won’t go well at all. Everyone can say Alonso has calmed down, but that really won’t work out. Alonso is really not going to let himself be beaten in his last year of driving F1. He is never, never, never going to do that alongside Max Verstappen.

Christijan Albers said in an interview with De Telegraaf

The 44-year-old has made it pretty clear that in his opinion, it will just not work for Red Bull to have two big personalities as their racing duo for next year. Both Alonso and Verstappen have a well-known reputation in F1 for being fierce in their way of approaching things.

Fernando Alonso can be an option for Red Bull if Max Verstappen leaves

While Christijan Albers has warned Red Bull against roping in Alonso as Verstappen’s teammate for next year, he also believes that the Spaniard can be a very attractive option for the Austrian team. However, only in case the 26-year-old leaves the team at the end of the ongoing season.

Fernando Alonso ideally wants to bring the curtain down on his career as a three-time world champion.

Alonso can only be an option if Verstappen leaves. I can never see Alonso next to Verstappen. Alonso is not going to get crushed in the last year of his career.

Christijan Albers said in the same interview

Alonso had a sensational 2023 campaign with the Aston Martin F1 team. He showed one and all why he deserves to be racing in the sport as he scored several podiums and ended his campaign in fourth place in the Driver’s Championship.

His contract with the Silverstone-based team is slated to come to a close at the end of this year. Considering this, it will be fascinating to see how the Alonso 2025 situation will develop in the upcoming months.
