The NFL season is set to kick off this Thursday, and fans are buzzing with excitement. Adding to the anticipation, the NFL recently released a hype video that has sparked some controversy. While the video featured some of football’s biggest names, it prominently showed Taylor Swift—appearing five times, more than any NFL player.
This raised eyebrows among fans, especially considering that MVPs like Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Dak Prescott only appeared once. Meanwhile, star players like Joe Burrow, C.J. Stroud, and Tyreek Hill were notably absent, leaving fans questioning the focus of the teaser. With around 300 games scheduled over the 18-week regular season, the focus of the video being a non-footballing entity did not sit well with fans.
The NFL was not very demure in indicating their eyes were on the pop star attending the games for her boyfriend Travis Kelce. Although nobody blames the NFL since the Delicate singer has averted the eyes of her huge fanbase towards football. Factually speaking, the viewership of the sport has increased with Swift’s appearance at the games. The demographic pertaining to teenage girls, it has increased by 53 percent, and among the 18-24 age group, there has been a 24 percent increase.
Last season, Taylor Swift attended 13 Chiefs games, including the Super Bowl, where Swift’s appearance on the big screen had become an inside joke within the Swifties. Swift’s Eras tour is the highest grossing tour in the history, surpassing $1 billion in revenue with over 4.35 million tickets sold. With that level of fandom, Swift became an unpaid sponsor for the NFL.
