LSU Coach Slams Angel Reese Hate Amid Chicago Sky Star’s Shooting Woes

Chicago Sky rookie sensation Angel Reese reached another milestone despite their tough 77-75 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday.

Reese finished with a double-double of 11 points and a career-high 22 rebounds to record her third straight 20-board performance, becoming the first-ever player in WNBA history to achieve the feat.

Her relentlessness on the glass has been a significant factor for the Sky this season, although they have struggled recently, absorbing three straight losses.

While many have lauded her rebounding prowess, there have also been a lot of criticisms about her shooting woes. In the loss to the Aces, Reese only shot 4-of-16 from the field. She has now shot an atrocious 31.8% in their last five games.

Despite this, Louisiana State assistant coach Gary Redus II, Reese’s college mentor, underscored the importance of the Sky forward’s ascent in a post on X, saying she isn’t appreciated enough. Reese appeared to agree with Redus and reposted the tweet.

“We complain about players not being able to do anything but score,” Redus wrote. “How much do we ask ‘When shots aren’t falling then what?’

“Then this happens and it’s not appreciated enough! Angel is a ROOKIE! And doing this! THIS IS NOT NORMAL! Keep going!”

For the season, the 22-year-old Reese is averaging an awful 39.3% from the field. Many feel that this is unacceptable, especially since her game is mostly predicated on hovering close to the rim.

With their latest defeat, the Sky dropped to 11-18 but remains in eighth place in the team standings. They will return to action on Wednesday against the Washington Mystics.
