The rivalry between Caitlyn Clark and Diana Taurasi has taken a new turn as the Phoenix Mercury’s social media team took a jab at Clark over her Olympic snub.
The Mercury posted a TikTok video teasing Clark for not being selected for the Paris Olympic Games, where Taurasi, at 42, competed in her sixth Olympics. Despite winning her sixth gold medal, Taurasi’s performance in the 2024 games was underwhelming, contributing only five points and four rebounds across six games.
The Mercury’s post seemed to mock Clark, who many believe deserved a spot on Team USA over Taurasi. Taurasi, however, showed no signs of regret, humorously acknowledging that she and Clark scored the same amount of points in the gold medal game—zero, as Taurasi was benched and didn’t play in the final against France.
As the Indiana Fever prepare to face the Phoenix Mercury, Clark still holds the upper hand in their head-to-head encounters. She led the Fever to victory against Taurasi’s team in their only meeting this season and secured another win when Taurasi was sidelined due to injury. Despite Taurasi’s pre-season warning that Clark would face a “rude awakening” in the WNBA, the reality seems to favor the young rookie, who continues to make a strong case for herself on and off the court.
