Bloodshot is a 2020 American superhero film based on a character of the same name from Valiant Comics. It’s set to be the first installment of a series of films set in a shared cinematic universe from Valiant Comics. Directed by David S. F. Wilson (in his debut as a feature film director) from a screenplay by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer and a story by Wadlow, the film stars Vin Diesel, Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell and Guy Pearce.
The plot follows Ray Garrison, a soldier who is killed in action and then revived with superpowers by a secret organization that wants to use him as a weapon. Garrison, now known as Bloodshot, has the ability to regenerate and interact with technology, making him an unstoppable warrior. As he begins to remember fragments of his previous life, Ray decides to get revenge on those who betrayed him.
Bloodshot premiered in US theaters on March 13, 2020 by Sony Pictures Releasing. The film grossed $37 million worldwide and received mixed criticism from critics, who praised Vin Diesel’s action sequences and acting, but criticized the script and narrative. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic closing theaters worldwide, Sony made the film available digitally on demand less than two weeks after its release in theaters, allowing a wider audience to watch it from their homes.
