Nick Wright asserts Chiefs’ path to historic three-peat will be easier compared to their Super Bowl journey last year

During the recent episode of First Things First, Nick Wright gave reasons for the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl for the third time in three years.

Nick Wright asserts Chiefs’ path to historic three-peat will be easier compared to their Super Bowl journey last year

It’s the three-peat year for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Nick Wright massively favors them to complete it, becoming the only team in NFL history to record it. From the Fox Sports analyst’s point of view, the Chiefs would find it easier to win the Super Bowl this year because the teams around them have become weaker.

The Chiefs will face stiff competition from the Baltimore RavensCincinnati BengalsBuffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins. Wright doesn’t believe in such a theory; instead, he envisions the reigning Super Bowl champions outclassing their opponents because they all got weaker in the offseason.

The Bills lost all-pro receiver Stefon Diggs to the Texans, while the Ravens, led by head coach John Harbaugh, saw massive changes in the coaching staff: Mark DeLeone (inside linebackers coach), Dennis Johnson (defensive line coach), and Doug Mallory (defensive backs coach).

These were the sides that the Chiefs beat in the second and third rounds of the playoffs in the 2023 season. According to Wright, if the Chiefs defeated them with a side that had the most missed catches (41) because of the absence of a No. 1 wide receiver, then this year they will surely take advantage.

The Chiefs made some massive additions to the receiver core in the offseason. First, they brought in former Cardinals and Ravens playmaker Hollywood Brown and then re-signed veteran Mecole Hardman, whose touchdown secured the Lombardi Trophy in Vegas.

Second, they drafted Texas speedster Xavier Worthy, who broke the 40-meter dash record at the NFL Combine. Walesman Louis Rees Zammit joined through the international player pathway, increasing competition.

As a matter of fact, the Chiefs accumulated the 15th most points (371), behind the Dolphins, Ravens, Browns, Texans, Colts, and Jaguars (who did not qualify for the playoffs). Wright also pointed out the point differential between the Chiefs and the teams. The Ravens had +203, the 49ers +193, the Bills +140, and the Dolphins +105. Yet they beat every single one of those teams.

FOX Sports predicted the Chiefs to have the best Super Bowl-winning odds (+500). They kick off the 2024 campaign with a replay of last season’s AFC Championship game against the Ravens on September 5.
