Lionel Messi paid tribute to his ex-coach Tito Vilanova on Thursday, honoring him on the 10th anniversary of his passing.
Posting on social media, the Argentine rememered his old coach and friend. The Spaniard led Messi and Barcelona to a La Liga title in 2012-13 where La Blaugrana set a new league-record of 100 points.
He left his role in 2013 after a recurrence of gland cancer, and passed one year later.
Vilanova’s impact on Messi and his legacy at Barcelona will never be forgotten, as the Spaniard reportedly played a crucial role in the Argentine staying with the Catalan Club.
In 2019, Marca reported that in his final days, Vilanova convinced Messi to stay with the club amid uncertainty over his future. the duo talked for ‘hours’ per Vilanova’s former assistant at Barcelona, Jordi Roura.
