An ongoing insider trading trial in New York City won’t impact Phil Mickelson’s preparation for the Masters, Lefty said on Wednesday at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
Mickelson was not charged with any wrongdoing but he was named a relief defendant in the suit and he agreed to turn over about $1 million in profits he made from a trade involving Dean Foods and Las Vegas sports gambler William Walters.
Walters has been charged with conspiracy and fraud involving trades of Dean Foods and the trial began last Wednesday in Federal District Court in Manhattan.
Mickelson was mentioned by federal prosecutors in opening statements and was also listed in a questionnaire given to prospective jurors, but he said he won’t be called as a witness.
“It’s not even a thought,” Mickelson said following his 5-and-3 victory over Si Woo Kim. “I’m not a part of it. I won’t be called.”
